Dead Rabbits –
Loppen, 11th of November

Another Friday
evening spent with some members form our exclusive man-club.

The anticipation
for the Dead Rabbits concert were high, due to the fact that the last time Foxy and the
Doctor were alone out-on-the-town it was when we saw Pavement at Loppen, which both Fox and Rock judged to be one of the best live concerts EVER.

Hard to beat but
a good night it turned out to be. Foxy showed up a bit early at Fingerbøllet,
so when I arrived the glass of IPA was nearly finished and there was a fresh
cigarette bud in the ash-tray. Time flies when you are having fun so before we
knew it, it was time to move ourselves from our comfortable seats at bar to our
old-time friend Loppen.

At the last minute
Alabama (DSF) got in on the action and had reserved a front row table to watch
the warm-up band Adama. Adama, a northern Swedish band is without a doubt a neo-psychedelic
band, but unfortunately not one of the most original. The lead singer, Idan
Cheaproot, outfit was proof of this…a few more beers and misplaced glasses and
one could mistaken Idan for Robert Plant at a distance. The music wasnt bad,
but actually seemed so familiar that it uninteresting. With that said live
music is in almost all cases good for the mind and soul, so we sat there with
our Loppen beers and enjoyed the predictable but well delivered tracks. Idan
voice fit well into the music but again resembled ”the psych sound recipe”
which can be found in many of the corners of Spotify.

Dr. Rock (or just
”Rock” as DSF recently referred to him as…:_)) was most likely the most excited
of our trio, as it was Rock that introduced the Dead Rabbits to the patrol. We
unfortunately didnt have to fight our way to the front, as Loppen was unusually
sparcely popluted for Friday night. The disapointed
evidently made it into the bands own perception as they played a good, but
extremely short concert.

The Dead Rabbits ; a five man (one woman) band from Southhampton, have an original sound, what I would characterize as Psych-Pop….Lighter
psychedelic rock music with a catchy pop-like rythms which gives the group an
original likeable sound. The group which
has definite influences from The Jesus Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine
played for the most part tracks from their recently released album ”Everything
is a Lie”. Rock bought a
autographed vinlyl signed by the lead singer Thomas Hayes. In the past weeks I
have heard the album several times, and despite the poor recording quality,
most of the tracks are very good.

The band played
well Hayes´ slightly whiny, and nasal, vocal was a created a fine layer put over the
repetative, noisy guitars. I would definitely like to see them if they ever
play at Roskilde where they would have a larger audience which would hopefully
bring out a more intense experience than what was delivered at Loppen that
night.
